About the editor
My name is Becker and I am a developmental editor with a multidisciplinary background. I trained as a literary translator, earning my Master of Translation Studies from Monash University. I also have a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) where I took classes on literature and creative writing, and I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA).
I started my career editing in the translation industry, as well as working for academic clients. However, my passion has always been with fiction, so I shifted to novel editing. Most of my clients write adult or young adult romance and fantasy, but at the end of the day, I love editing all genres.
My editing philosophy is to help you mould your novel into what you want it to be. Everyone has a different reason why they write. Some want their work to be a commercial success, appeal to a niche audience, tell a story they’ve wanted to tell their whole lives or appeal to a specific audience. Others may want to find a balance between these elements.
There’s no wrong path here, but each of these goals requires a different approach to developmental editing. This is why I want to understand you, your vision for your novel and how you best receive feedback so I can give tailored advice to help you meet your goals. No two books are the same, so no two edits will be either!
Outside of editing, I enjoy caring for my pet chickens (my assistant editors), tending to my garden, and watching my pet chickens eat my garden.
