Important Information
I want to be as transparent as possible so you know what to expect when we work together. Here are a few things to consider before booking an edit.
Contracts
All clients are asked to sign a contract once we’ve agreed to work together. It is important we have a clear understanding of what is expected of each other throughout the editing process, and that your rights to your novel are protected. The contract you’ll be asked to sign outlines:
The scope of your edit
Pricing
Timelines
Payment dates
What happens if your word count is higher than expected
What happens if you want to change the start date or cancel your edit
That editing your work will not alter your copyright or ownership of your novel
How I will not share your work with anyone
How we will communicate throughout the editing process
These may be simple things but it’s really important we both are on the same page before we start.
Payment methods
I accept payment through bank transfer (also known as ACH or direct deposit) and credit/debit card through Stripe. If you haven’t heard of Stripe, it’s a payment gateway that processes card payments. In other words, it’s the same process as when you buy something online from a website.
Deposits
After signing the contract, a deposit is required. Usually, the deposit is 50% of the overall cost of your edit. The remaining payment is due a few days before your edit is completed.
Payment plans
I am happy to create payment plans for those who need them. To organise your payment plan, please let me know you’d like a payment plan when you book your edit. Payment plans I’ve done in the past include:
25% deposit, 25% on the start date of your edit and 50% before I return your edit.
30% deposit, 30% on the start date of your edit and 40% before I return your edit.
25% deposit, followed by monthly payments up until I return your edit.
